Morningstar today announced that Wing Chan has joined the company as Director of Fund Research. Chan oversees Morningstar Asia’s qualitative fund research in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan.

Grant Kennaway, Morningstar’s Head of Asia-Pacific Fund Research, said, “We’re excited to welcome Wing to Morningstar as head of fund research in Asia. We began producing qualitative fund ratings and research reports in the region about four years ago, and Wing’s appointment helps us expand our breadth and depth of coverage. His wealth management experience will add valuable insights to our research effort.”

Chan is responsible for providing investment research and thought leadership on relevant topics for Asian investors, and will spearhead fund research initiatives in Asia. Morningstar currently covers approximately 70 funds domiciled in Asia. Chan is based in Hong Kong and reports to Kennaway.

“I’m thrilled to join the Morningstar team and become part of the company’s efforts to help investors reach their financial goals, through in-depth and comprehensive fund research,” Chan said. “The fund industry continues to mature, and investors need data, tools, and research to achieve better outcomes. Morningstar’s independent analysis and ratings, along with its extensive database, can support investors in their due diligence process.”

Chan was previously investment counselor and vice president for EFG Bank, where he advised on investment solutions for the bank’s clients and relationship managers and contributed to the bank’s mutual fund research and due diligence effort in Asia. He previously worked as an investment associate for Macquarie Private Bank and as an investment consultant for Lonsec Limited. Chan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance, with merit, from the University of New South Wales, and obtained the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation in 2009.
